ATHLETES:
BRAD FISHER (AUSTIN HIGH SCHOOL)
Brad Fisher was the third 8th grade MSHSL State Champion and earned a pair of State Titles and 4 state place finishes. Brad had a high school record of 154-14. Brad was a NCAA 3X All American for the Augsburg, And A member of four NCAA III National Team Championships, Brad had a 118-30 Collegiate Record for Augsburg! Brad has been an assistant coach for 10 plus years at Augsburg. Brad has has been part of three NCAA Division III NCAA Team Titles as well (assistant Coach). Brad teaches Special Education at Fridley High School and serves as Head Cross Country Coach.
JASON RHOTEN (KASSON-MANTORVILLE HIGH SCHOOL)
Jason Rhoten was an outstanding wrestler at Kasson-Mantorville High School, finished with a 164-28 varsity Career record. Jason is one of the few wrestlers in high school and college to finish on the Top of The Podium. Jason closed out his career as a Senior in 2002 with a 140-Pound State Title, for K-M. A 2-Time State Finisher At K-M. Jason took his talents to Minnesota State University where he earned four NCAA II All American Honors, And Won the 157-Pound NCAA II National Champion in 2008, in his final Collegiate Match. Jason has been elected to NCAA Division II Hall of Fame & Minnesota State University Mankato Hall of Fame. Jason finished his Collegiate Career with a 136-23 Mark;2nd for most All-Time Wins in School History for Coach Jim Makovsky. Jason is the Regional Fisheries Manager in Great Falls Montana, and proud parents of four children.
CHRIS STEELE (HAYFIELD HIGH SCHOOL)
Chris Steele was a 2-Time State High School Champion for Hall of Fame Coach Dave Erickson at Hayfield High School. Chris ended his career in style with a :34 second pin in the 160-Pound Championship his senior year, going against another undefeated wrestler in the finals. The two-time State Champion ended his career with a 114-16-2 Record, with 106 Falls; 2nd only to Cory Olson, his HS Hero! Chris’s pin in the final was his 83rd straight win to close out his career! Chris, one of the top recruits in the Country, headed for Nebraska and competed for two years. Chris has returned to the Hayfield area and is farming today.
THOMAS THEEDE (LEWISTON-ALTURA HIGH SCHOOL)
Tom Theede competed for Hall of Fame Coach Frank Murphy at Lewiston-Altura High School. Tom has a 68-14-1 High School Record. Tom won the 1982 State High School Championship for the Cardinals at 167 Pounds in The 2-Class System. Tom also placed 3rd his junior season. Tom’s two sons Jordan and Ryan were standouts for the Lewiston-Altura Wrestling Program. Tom farms today in the Lewiston-Altura Area,also is a Pioneer Seed Corn Dealer and has a Spraying Operation.
ATHLETE/COACH:
MIKE BURINGA (PLAINVIEW-ELGIN-MILLVILLE HIGH SCHOOL)
Mike wrestled for Hall of Fame Coach Jim Campbell at PEM), where he won the State Title, and also placed 3rd And 4th. Mike’s High School Record was 139-20-2. Mike was 33-0 in his championship year. Mike took over the PEM Program white a student at Winona State. The Head coach for over 12 Years, along with Head Coaching Duties at Kasson-Mantorville, where his team finished 4th in the State Tournament. Mike had a 113-41-3 HS Coaching record. Mike also served as an Athletic Director. Mike organized and Head Coach of Team Minnesota at the NHSCA Wrestling Championships, winning the National Title in 1998. Mike teach at Lewiston-Altura Elementary School and coaches Softball and helps with Football at St. Charles HS.
OFFICAL: ROD HOESLY: (Winona & Fountain City, WI)
Rod officiated for 28 Years and comes highly recommended by the SMWO Association. Rod worked 4 Clash Tournaments and also worked a number of Wisconsin State High School Wrestling Tournaments. Rod is also a member of the Winona High School wrestling Hall of Fame, where he placed 6th at State for Coach Dave Moracco. Rod wrestled at Winona State and was recruited by Fran McCann, and was a NSIC Runner Up. Rod taught Science’s and other subject areas and coached at Rushford-Peterson High School. Rod was coach of the Track & Field Boys Program that won the State Team True Title in 1991. Rod was assistant Track Coach for the girls that Won the 2006 State Team True Title.
COACH: MATT RYAN (KENYON-WANAMINGO HIGH SCHOOL)
Matt Ryan finished his career with an outstanding 363-172-2 record. Matt served 21 years as Head Coach. The last 12 years he was a remarkable 284-78. Matt retired from coaching in 2019. Matt’s Teams won the State Title in 2016, They were Runner Up in 2009 and 2019. The Knights advanced to the Section 1 A Finals for 12 straight season, Winning 6 Section I Titles. Matt was chosen as Section Class A Coach of the year in 2009 and 2016. Matt was State’s Wrestling Coach of the Year for all three classes-A, AA, AAA in 2016. Matt is currently the High School Principal at K-W.
ASSISTANT COACH: JAY WHEATON (CALEDONIA/HOUSTON)
Jay Wheaton has been involved with the Caledonia/Houston Program for over 25 years as an Assistant coach and the youth program. Jay has been “the glue” that has sent outstanding wrestlers from Houston; in a highly successful pairing with Caledonia. Jay was the Top Assistant at Caledonia under successful Head Coaches Jay Tolleson and Dan Goergen. The programs usually send between 10-12 wrestlers every year to the program. Some of those athletes Included State Champ Zach Schneider that came from Houston, and recent place winner Alex Francis. Jay, himself Is the all time winningest wrestler in the Houston Program when it was alone; with a 114-31-2 mark. Holds the Record with brother Kyle for most wins. Jay is the Vice President, and Project Manager for Mead & Hunt Engineering Firm, in La Crosse, WI
MERITORIOUS SERVICE: DONITA FLODEEN (CANNON FALLS)
Donita is the wife of long time Cannon Falls Coach Dudley Flodeen. Mother of three sons that all wrestled, Donita has been a table worker/helper for over 20 Years. Donita volunteered at local events. There’s always A need for tournament help. Donita has been blessed to volunteer at many events; including the MSHSL State Tournaments for over 20 Years. Donita has also been a table worker at a number of National Collegiate Wrestling Tournaments, several years at USA National’s in Fargo, and USA Events in Las Vegas, etc. As Donita says, “It’s a Great Seat to see the action”! Wrestling has been lucky and blessed to have such outstanding Table help like Donita over the years!
